The annual Black Excellence in Real Estate Awards Gala is more than just a party (though it is definitely a celebration you don’t want to miss!). It’s a moment for Pittsburgh’s Black real estate community to come together to learn from each other, reflect on a year’s worth of challenges and wins, and share the stories behind the hard work of generational wealth building.
Created in 2021 by Mary Hester, Founder of LifeVenture Real Estate Solutions, and Tammy Thompson, Executive Director of Catapult, the event started as a one-off celebration and has evolved into a rapidly growing movement that is intentionally creating opportunities for Black families in Pittsburgh to achieve homeownership.
“There’s not a lot in our city that’s focused on the work that we do as far as raising awareness and celebrating people. A lot of people don’t get the recognition for the work that they’ve been doing for years — and it’s a lot of work. The gala is an event where we have a great time, but the priority is to make sure that we’re recognizing people."
Mary Hester
This year’s gala was held at PPG Place on September 26th. Over the course of the evening, a powerful — and well-dressed — group of trailblazers, innovators, and leaders ate, danced, and honored the individuals who went above and beyond for the cause.
